the building foot print for different buildings (the little red circle) is a different size depending on the building chosen.
Corollary: The number of cones available on a street depends on the footprint size of the building chosen.
Corollary: Actual buildings dont seem to fit exactly inside the footprint circle, they appear to be slightly larger, or the cones are not placed at exactly one full diameter of the footprint circle from each other.
Extension: If you are looking to maximise the number of buildings on a street that does not run directly vertical or horizontal where the cones match one to one with buildings then it may be benificial to mix building sizes, ie a larger one and then a smaller one, this may help restrict the dead space between the footprint circles of your builidngs.
EDIT: Actually the advantage of mixing small and larger buildings may not be as strong as i first anticipated, when builing a larger footprint builing next to a smaller foot print one it appears the first cone is placed more or less one full large diameter from the center of the last (smaller) building. So mixing may still provide a small advantage but it may not be significant enough to allow an extra building except on the longer streets.
Extension: At some point your going to have to abandon filling your streets with green houses or cottages.....You will simply not be able to buy and fill streets fast enough to spend all your available funds.
When you do switch types then after you have filled your street with your buildings make surethat you also check to see that you cant squeeze a couple of green houses in the gaps that will inevitably crop up.
The choice of building to step up to use is limited by your level but the nova building is a good choice with a small foot print, and is also on the first page of the building selection popup. the grid building has a larger foot print but the same ROI.
